Harry Potter pop-up in Yongsan is bigger, less of a wait than Hongdae

Aiko Tanaka·7/3/2026, 6:00:44 PM

If you're a Harry Potter fan planning a Seoul trip, the Mahodokoro pop-up just opened at Yongsan's IFC Mall — and it's a totally different experience from the Hongdae location that drew 5-hour queues. The Yongsan venue is significantly larger, with no wait on weekday afternoons, and carries exclusive Korea-only merchandise you won't find anywhere else.

The star of the Korea-exclusive lineup is Dobby merch — house elf tote bags, keychains, stickers, and cushions that lean into the "corporate resignation energy" vibe (think: Dobby as the ultimate symbol of freedom from work). There are also Hogwarts house-specific goods, collection stickers featuring house symbols and items like Slytherin's locket and Ravenclaw's diadem, and large bookmark stickers (not the thin kind) that are reasonably priced compared to other items. The Hogwarts acceptance letter envelope is a nice touch if you're collecting unique pieces.

What's on display: The dorm robes are mounted for viewing, but unlike Hongdae, there's no photo zone where you can actually try on a house hat — that's a small letdown if you were hoping for that moment. House-specific merchandise is visually unique but priced higher than expected. Cups, bowls, and other homeware mirror the Hongdae selection, though the Yongsan location does add jellybean cushions to the mix.

The gacha machine is the main interactive element. After card payment at the register, you get a special coin to play. It's limited to 10 pulls per person at 15,000 won per pull — and plenty of visitors go for the full 10. The gacha features Fantastic Beasts characters like Niffler alongside Harry Potter favorites.

Pricing reality check: A Jet Scream pen costs under 10,000 won at a regular stationery store. The Harry Potter version is 37,500 won. The house robes and specialty items follow a similar premium curve, so budget accordingly if you're planning to shop.

Timing: Weekday afternoons mean zero queue. Weekends and opening days likely draw crowds, so if you want to browse without pressure, hit it on a weekday. The space is comfortable enough that even during busier times, it shouldn't feel as chaotic as Hongdae's infamous 5-hour wait.

Who this is for: Hardcore Potter fans, Fantastic Beasts collectors, and anyone who appreciates niche Korea-exclusive merch will find something here. The Korea-only items (especially the Dobby line and bookmark stickers) make it worth a visit even if you've already shopped other Harry Potter pop-ups abroad. If you're casually interested or just want a photo, the experience is shorter and less overwhelming than Hongdae, but the prices might catch you off guard.
