IU and Lee Jong-suk have broken up. EDAM Entertainment and Ace Factory confirmed it on July 10, closing out a relationship that went public on December 31, 2022.
Both agencies released nearly identical statements: "They decided to remain as good colleagues." Ace Factory noted that further details are personal and asked for understanding. EDAM said it cannot confirm when the breakup happened. Busy schedules were cited as the reason.
They first met in 2012 as co-MCs on SBS Inkigayo. For roughly a decade they worked together before announcing they were a couple. During those years they donated 100 million won each on Children's Day and at other times. At the 2022 MBC Acting Awards, where Lee Jong-suk won the Grand Prize for Big Mouth, he said: "I have liked [her] for a very long time. I respect [her] so much."
Both have full calendars ahead. IU wrapped the MBC drama 21st Century Grand Lady in May and appeared in the Netflix series Perfectly Fooled. She's working on a new album and has a solo concert scheduled for September at Goyang Sports Complex Main Stadium. Lee Jong-suk has the Disney+ original The Remarried Empress lined up and has confirmed his next drama, Lee Seop's Romance.
