Ji Sang-ryeol pitches 'G.C Hammer' comeback 20 years on, composer Kim Do-hoon is not convinced

Ji Sang-ryeol wants back in.

On the July 18 episode of KBS 2TV's 살림남 (Salimnam), the comedian dusted off his 2007 alter ego 'G.C Hammer'—a faceless rapper at the time—and announced his return to music two decades later. He walked into RBW, home to Mamamoo, Kwon Eun-bi, and Secret, to pitch the idea to composer Kim Do-hoon and composer Lee Sang-ho. Both had worked on the original 'Club Arirang.'

He came prepared with a team name: '색종이' (Saekjongyi). Kim Do-hoon wasn't interested. "You only have enthusiasm," the composer said. "There are several options, but not doing it is also one option." He ruled out ballads and ended the listening session early.

Ji Sang-ryeol performed anyway. Afterward he mentioned, "I have arrhythmia, so right now is exactly my max." He left with a handwritten note from Kim Do-hoon confirming they'd meet again. Getting a signed IOU from a skeptical composer counts as a win.

Trot singer Oh Yu-jin appeared as a special guest. She was born in 2009 and is 18 this year. Her mother was born in 1984 and is 43.

The episode also featured Park Seo-jin and his younger sister Park Hyo-jung at the National Museum of Korea for 국중박 분장놀이, now in its third year with a 3-million-won prize. The museum topped 6 million visitors for two straight years and ranked third globally and first in Asia for attendance last year.

The siblings recreated three works. They transformed the Joseon-era folk painting 호작도 (Magpie and Tiger) with Hyo-jung as the tiger. They assembled the gilt-bronze Buddha 금동연가칠년명여래입상 using gold wrapping paper and chocolate snacks. For Kim Hong-do's 씨름 (Wrestling), they shot a composite video where both played multiple roles to cover the figures in the painting.

"Back then I only thought of it as a place where artifacts were collected," Park Seo-jin said, "but as I started to understand the meaning in folk paintings and draw them, I became interested in history."
