Kim Gun-mo releases first new song in 10 years, declines all broadcast and YouTube offers

Kim Gun-mo is back after a decade of silence. On July 1, the veteran singer released 어디쯤 가고 있을까 through major online music platforms. His first new music since 50 in 2016, which marked his 25th debut anniversary.

The track remakes the title song from Jeon Young's debut album, originally released in 1977. Kim played guitar on the recording—a first for him. "Since this is the first song I've sung while playing guitar, I hope it becomes an opportunity to show many people a 'new Kim Gun-mo'," he said. The original composer Lee Hyun-seop and lyricist Lee Kyung-mi, a married couple, called the remake "an unexpected gift."

Don't expect him on your screen anytime soon. Despite receiving many offers from broadcasters and YouTube channels, Kim has no plans to accept any of them.

His return to performing started with the nationwide tour concert 25-26 Kim Gun-mo Live Tour 'KIM GUN MO.', his first tour in six years. On that stage he addressed his hiatus with characteristic wit: "I was going to rest for five years but rested for one more year." He also told the crowd, "Now I won't care about comments and such, I'll just live. I'll show you how to age cutely."

Kim married pianist and composer Jang Ji-yeon, 13 years his junior, in 2019 after announcing they were dating with marriage in mind.
