Korean musicals flood Shanghai and Taipei as over 10 productions run simultaneously in China

Over 10 Korean musicals are running simultaneously in Shanghai right now — and more are on the way.

July 10 brought Anarchist (아나키스트), an original musical by Korean production company MBJet Company, to Shanghai Peace Cinema. The work follows Korean independence activists who fought in Shanghai dreaming of liberation.

Already on Shanghai stages: Black Mary Poppins (running since June), Thrill Me, Fan Letter, Praise of Death, Shadow, Gwangyeom Sonata, The Fiction, and Brothers Karamazov. All close by August.

Daehangno show-musical Heongki Show (헝키쇼) moves next. Six performances are scheduled at WESTAR in Taipei, Taiwan, September 19–20. The production brings the concept and live atmosphere of its Daehangno run directly to the local stage in replica format.

Looking into the second half of 2026, Mia Familia (미아 파밀리아), Mio Fratello (미오 프라텔로), and Roulette (룰렛) are all scheduled for extended runs overseas. Exact venues and dates haven't been announced yet.
