Lim Kim returns with second full album 13 years on, reveals Yoon Sang feature behind-the-scenes

Lim Kim is back with her second full-length album, Exit to Nowhere — 13 years after her first.

She stopped by singer Jo Hyun-ah's YouTube channel 조현아의 평범한 목요일밤 (Hyun-ah Jo's Ordinary Thursday Night) to discuss the record, the hiatus, and how it all started: a memo she wrote alone at a café, looking back over the past decade. That note became the spine of an autobiographical album.

The comeback wasn't straightforward. After her run as 김예림 (Kim Ye-rim), she took roughly three years off — long enough for retirement rumors to circulate. She was 23 when she decided to step away from the prescribed idol framework and go her own direction. When she came back, she came back as Lim Kim, a name she adopted to fit the mood of her music.

"Through the Glow" features veteran musician Yoon Sang and stands out as the album's best collaboration. Lim Kim reached out the way she always does: a direct social media message. She had been a fan of his for years, and when he told her he'd been listening to her music regularly, it moved her deeply. The concept she had in mind was specific — she wanted the warmth and gravity of a life senior showing up to meet you at the finish line as you head toward an exit.

She also shared some personal context. Her mother is an art teacher, which shaped her creative instincts early, but that same mother strongly opposed her debut because of how shy she was. (Independent to a fault. She says she's barely invited anyone to her home since school, and has no one she texts the moment she wakes up.) A Korean medicine clinic also told her to cut back on coffee due to a sensitive autonomic nervous system.
