KBS Joy's '무엇이든 물어보살': Kazakh student's Korean dating app horror stories draw Seo Jang-hun's blunt verdict

Six men in two and a half years. None of them worked out. A 27-year-old Kazakhstani graduate student brought her Korean dating app experiences to KBS Joy's 무엇이든 물어보살 on July 20, and the stories she told left hosts Seo Jang-hun and Lee Su-geun with little to say in defense of the men involved.

She's been in Korea for roughly two years and six months, speaks Korean well enough to watch dramas without subtitles, and has loved the language since she started watching Korean dramas at age 10. 꽃보다 남자 (Boys Over Flowers) is her all-time favorite. She came in hoping for something like what she'd seen on screen. What she got was different.

Through dating apps, she met six men total. One proposed cohabitation the moment their first meal ended. Another opened by saying he was looking for a "fun partner." A fitness trainer suggested, on a first date, that she join him and his parents on a trip. She also paid to join a location-based blind date program; the man she connected with there eventually pushed for "let's drink and go to a hotel."

Seo Jang-hun's response was immediate: "That's the biggest mistake." Korean people themselves get scammed through dating apps frequently, he noted, and advised her to hold back emotionally at the start—meet slowly, observe for a long time before giving her heart. On the K-drama leading men she'd grown up admiring, he was equally direct, laughing as he said, "There are no men like that in our country." (Boys Over Flowers really did set an impossible standard.) Lee Su-geun also weighed in, empathizing with her situation during the consultation.
