Kim Shin-young wins grand prize at 'Rainbow Night' as 'Na Honssan' hits 8.9% peak with Yuri's Jeju debut
MBC's 'I Live Alone' hit 8.9% on July 10 as Kim Shin-young won the talent show and Girls' Generation's Yuri showed off her Jeju life.
Kim Shin-young took the grand prize at Rainbow Night, the talent show that anchored the 1st Rainbow Summer Training Camp arc on MBC's I Live Alone (Na Honssan). The July 10 episode peaked at 8.9% viewership according to Nielsen Korea, with a 6.9% Seoul metropolitan household rating and 4.1% in the 2054 demographic. It ranked first among all Friday entertainment programs.
The peak-rated minute went to Girls' Generation's Yuri, who has been living on Jeju Island for three years. Cameras caught her making myeongran tott sot-bap — a rice dish with roe and butter alongside sea mustard she'd harvested herself from the Jeju waters. This marked the first time her Jeju life appeared on the show.
"During my busy activities, the glamorous spotlight and endless schedule gave me happiness and popularity, but my personal life felt empty," Yuri said. On what drew her to Jeju: "In Jeju, I focus more on making a living. Being close to nature gives me courage, like 'Kwon Yuri, you can do it. Just try!'" Three years in and she's basically a different person.
Rainbow Night packed a full lineup. Jeon Hyun-moo opened as Muil-lit — a Jeon Hyun-moo and ILLIT mashup — performing It's Moo, a routine he spent 300,000 won learning. Kian84 and Kim Dae-ho became "Taeji84" and "Juno84" for a parody of Seo Taiji and Boys' Come Back Home. Gu Seong-hwan and Park Gyeong-hye paired up as Meokkkaebi×Dokaebi for Candy in My Ear. Bae Na-ra sang Thorn. Minho performed If I May Say. The "maknae line" trio of Park Ji-hyeon, Joy, and Seo Beom-jun — billed as Cooling Cooling — staged Elegy. Kim Shin-young's Within 10 Minutes set, done in her "Dabi Imo" persona, earned her the win.
Next week brings Lee Joo-seung back as "Director Lee" after moving into filmmaking, plus Kian84, Minho, and Bae Na-ra together as the Jjin-run Crew. The show airs every Friday at 11:10 PM.
