Park Sun-cheon recalls mistaking her 1983 '전원일기' casting offer for a real marriage proposal

Park Sun-cheon appeared on tvN STORY's 남겨서 뭐하게 on July 6, alongside Go Du-shim and Jo Ha-na. She recounted how a director's question nearly had her accepting what she thought was a marriage proposal. It was actually a casting offer.

The director had asked to meet with her. She arrived eager. Her first credit on MBC's long-running rural drama 전원일기 came in October 1983, and she had wanted the role badly. "It was a drama I really loved and wanted to do so much," she said.

Then came the confusion. The director opened with "What do you think of senior Yoo In-chon?" He followed up: "How about marrying into Yoo In-chon's family?" Park Sun-cheon took him literally. She told him she liked the idea but would need to check with her parents first. The director burst out laughing.

He was asking if she'd play the second daughter-in-law character in 전원일기. A very different kind of commitment. "I acted with the mindset of actually going through a real marriage," she added.
