SF musical Dive heads to stage Aug 18, running through November at Link the Space

다이브 (Dive) opens August 18 at Link the Space 1관 in Seoul and runs through November 8. Tickets go on sale in July.

The musical adapts SF novelist Danyo (단요)'s full-length novel. The source novel won the Mun Yun-seong SF Literary Award and the Park Ji-ri Literary Award, plus the Excellence Award in the Long Fiction category at the 12th SF Awards.

Seoul, 2057. Most of the city is underwater. Seonnyul (선율), a water worker in Nogosan, meets Suho (수호), an android whose memories froze in 2038. (A flooded Seoul and a robot stuck in the past — the premise alone carries weight.)

Kim Sol-ji (김솔지) wrote the book. Min Chan-hong (민찬홍) composed the music. Lee Gi-ppeum (이기쁨) directs. The leads rotate across three performers each. Park Sae-him (박새힘), Park Ju-hyeok (박주혁), and Jeong Ji-woo (정지우) share Suho. Ban Jeong-mo (반정모), Jo Yeong-hwa (조영화), and Lee Se-heon (이세헌) alternate as Seonnyul. Im Chan-min (임찬민), Park Eun-mi (박은미), and Kang Chan (강찬) play the Nogosan elders Gyeong-imo and Gyeong-samchon. Lee Min-gyu (이민규), Yu Dong-hun (유동훈), and Gwak Da-in (곽다인) play Uchan, a character living under guilt. Geum Bo-mi (금보미) and Park Ju-a (박주아) each take on a double role as both Yuan (유안) and Suho's mother.

A reading showcase preceded the full run. The production was recognized for its original worldbuilding and score. The company said it aimed to create "a work where audiences can reflect on their own lives and gain empathy and comfort" through characters carrying regret, guilt, hope, and recovery. The script and music have been continuously refined since the showcase.
