Baby Shark Boy drops debut single 'WAVE' feat. MONSTA X's Jooheon

Baby Shark Boy — the kid from the Pinkfong Baby Shark Dance video, now ten years on — dropped his first digital single WAVE (feat. MONSTA X's Jooheon) on August 20 via The Pinkfong Company.

The track opens on the familiar Baby Shark melody before expanding into electropop, layering upbeat dance beats with trap elements. For a debut single built on IP this recognizable, it's worth noting that Baby Shark Boy co-wrote the lyrics himself.

Jooheon handled the feature. His statement: "It is meaningful to be together at the moment when the boy from the globally beloved Pinkfong Baby Shark exercise video takes his first step as a solo artist."

Choreography came from TEAM SAME, led by Choi Young-jun, whose credits include BTS, SEVENTEEN, and TWICE. The routine references key moves from the original Baby Shark Dance — the video sitting at 17.2 billion YouTube views and holding the all-time #1 spot on the platform — reinterpreted as a K-pop performance designed to be easy to follow.

The music video is on Baby Shark Boy's official YouTube channel. WAVE streams on Melon, Genie, Bugs, Vibe, Flo, YouTube Music, Spotify, and Apple Music.

The Pinkfong Company is planning a behind-the-scenes documentary covering Baby Shark Boy's growth and the making of WAVE, and is reviewing follow-up collaborations tied to a Baby Shark film scheduled to open this winter.

Park Han-sol, Head of Content Production at The Pinkfong Company, said the single is "a project that expands familiar memories originating from Baby Shark into new music and performance." Whether the IP can carry a full solo career is the real question here. Baby Shark Boy put it plainly: "I hope you will see me anew through this song."
