Elliot Page plays Greek soldier Sinon in Nolan's 'Odyssey' — first blockbuster role post-transition

Elliot Page is in Christopher Nolan's Odyssey, cast as the Greek soldier Sinon. It's his first blockbuster credit since transitioning.

Sinon gets roughly four minutes of screen time across the film's three-hour runtime. Dr. Kang Dae-jin, a researcher at Jeongam Institute with master's and doctoral degrees in Western Classics from Seoul National University, calls the character a key figure in the story. "Except for one or two scenes, the rest are all adapted from the original work in a modern way," Kang said. "You need to know the original work to properly appreciate the film."

Page came out as transgender in 2020, having previously worked under the name Ellen Page. Earlier credits include Juno (2008) and Inception. Kang, who recently published The Hero's Return: Odysseia (Dodone), a detailed commentary on the Odysseus myth, noted one gap in the adaptation: "It was regrettable that a symbolic scene where the hero Odysseus overcomes crisis through wisdom was missing."
