Trot singer Ji Young-il of Totalset appeared on KBS 2 Radio on August 20, recounting seven failed auditions and thirteen group debuts that never happened before going solo.

Seven auditions. Thirteen teams that never made it to debut. Ji Young-il (지영일), a trot singer under Totalset (토탈셋), laid out that history on the August 20 afternoon broadcast of KBS 2 Radio's Eun Ga-eun's Shining Trot, appearing in the show's featured guest corner '빛나는 초대석'.
"Those who have done audition broadcasts would relate to the saying 'I don't want to do this ever again,'" he said. His reason for going solo was straightforward: "Since I have not achieved good results so far, I decided to challenge myself to make my name known as a solo singer."
He performed Yeollyeora Chamkkae (열려라 참깨) live on air—the same track he brought to the first round of Mumyeong Jeonseol (무명전설). He also sang Patti Kim's Geurae Nae Chinguyo (그대 내 친구여), dedicating it to his father, Ji Jang-won (지장원).
DJ Eun Ga-eun (은가은) had two reactions to the performance. "This is the first time I've seen someone come on the radio and perform like a concert." She added: "I think people like this really should do well. It was such a wonderful performance."
