Hybe, JYP, SM, YG join forces for Phenomenon, an 11-day K-culture festival and awards event in December 2027

Korea's four biggest entertainment companies — Hybe, JYP Entertainment, SM Entertainment, and YG Entertainment — are establishing a joint venture to produce Phenomenon (패노메논), a large-scale K-culture festival and fandom awards event scheduled for December 2–12, 2027, with a preview event on December 2 opening the 11-day run.

Park Jin Young, chair of the Public Culture Exchange Committee, outlined the project at a press briefing on July 27 at the Seoul Education Building of the National Museum of Modern Art in Jongno-gu, Seoul. The event is being framed as the first large-scale initiative jointly promoted by the private sector and the government.

The festival stretches far beyond music. Organizers are planning a multi-genre fandom awards ceremony alongside programming in film, video, games, animation, webtoons, food, fashion, and beauty. During the December event period, Phenomenon will hold an awards ceremony that selects the best fandom and presents a trophy to that fandom's artist.

On money, Park was blunt. "Phenomenon will make money," he said. "It is impossible to get private companies and artists to participate in work that doesn't make money." Private capital would drive the business. Government budget would be invested to preserve public interest.

Park also pushed back on concerns about smaller agencies being locked out. "If we focus only on the four major agencies and exclude small and mid-sized agencies, we will probably get beaten," he said. "Of course that won't happen. I didn't start this work without that level of sense of mission."
