BTOB's Lee Chang-seop on why he refused joint appearances with his famous aunt Seonjae-snim
Lee Chang-seop's third mini album dropped Sept 15. In a new interview, he explained why he kept his temple-cuisine-master aunt off his comeback.
Third mini album, family boundaries kept separate
BTOB's Lee Chang-seop released his third mini album Lee;Make(Fragmenta Amoris) on September 15. The same day, a new episode of the 1theK Original web variety show 본인등판 went live—titled "Lee Chang-seop, whose voice was in the worst condition when recording 천상연."
During the episode, Chang-seop explained why he'd turned down offers to appear alongside his paternal aunt, Seonjae-snim. She's the first designated master of Korean temple cuisine (대한민국 사찰음식 명장 1호) and appears on Netflix's 흑백요리사2 (Black and White Chef 2).
"I didn't want to be called 'Seonjae-snim's nephew' and complain about it," he said. There was another reason too: "I didn't want to tire out Seonjae-snim."
The carrot noodles he can't replicate
Her cooking, though? That got his full attention. Chang-seop called the carrot noodles Seonjae-snim made for him "a scam"—highest compliment possible.
"I watched her make carrot noodles right in front of me. Not much went into it, but it was ridiculously delicious. No sugar or sweet things went into it, but it was really sweet."
"You can't buy it," he added. Temple cuisine made by the country's top-ranked master doesn't exactly show up on delivery apps.
Seven cities, starting October
Now that the album's out, Chang-seop moves into tour mode. His solo concert Unknown begins in October and hits seven cities: Seoul, Busan, Suwon, Jeonju, Ulsan, Daegu, and Goyang.
