A debut track rewrites its own chart story
Han Dong-geun dropped I Rewrote the End of This Novel (이 소설의 끝을 다시 써보려 해) on September 30, 2014. Two years later, on August 25, 2016, it hit No. 1 on Melon's real-time chart. The jump was sharp: 20 positions in a single week.
It's a ballad about lingering affection and regret toward a former lover. Han's vocal delivery carries the emotional weight. He'd built his initial profile as the winner of MBC's Widaehan Tansaeng 3 (위대한 탄생3).
Two consecutive weekly chart wins, then a broadcast first
The run didn't stop at one real-time spike. I Rewrote the End of This Novel topped Melon's weekly comprehensive chart for two straight periods: August Week 4 (Aug. 22–28, 2016) and August Week 5 (Aug. 29–Sep. 4, 2016).
Then in September 2016, the track claimed No. 1 on KBS 2TV's Music Bank. Han Dong-geun's first terrestrial music broadcast win since debut. Two years to get there, but he got there.
