Jang Ki-ha flips the script: first solo album 'Scattered' built from a silent film, out today

Video first, music second — two years in the making

Jang Ki-ha's first solo regular album 산산조각 (Scattered) releases September 9. The 9-track record took two years to complete. The reason sits in how it was built.

Instead of writing music first and filming after, Jang Ki-ha started with a poem he wrote himself. He then produced a 33-minute silent film from that poem. Only then did the music begin—nine songs composed and arranged to fit the flow of footage that already existed. His label, Duru Duru Artist Company, calls the method "video music," positioning it as a distinct creative form rather than a glorified music video.

"This album 산산조각 is the starting point of video music that newly establishes the realm of video and music beyond simple video," the agency said. It "will provide a special experience where music and video completely interlock" for fans who have been waiting on new material.

What drops today — and what comes after

The release unfolds across the evening. All nine tracks hit streaming platforms first. Three hours later, the full 33-minute video music drops on Jang Ki-ha's official YouTube channel. A physical CD carrying the album's worldview goes on sale at online and offline music stores.

Two years of behind-the-scenes footage doesn't disappear after launch day. Following the album release, a documentary series covering the entire two-year production process will roll out sequentially.
