Jeon Hyo-sung on marriage: "Not against it, but I refuse to rush because of age"

17 years in, no timeline on marriage

Jeon Hyo-sung has been Secret's leader since 2009. In a recent Chuseok-themed hanbok interview with Star News, she talked about where she stands on marriage.

"I'm not against marriage, but I have no desire to get married just because of age," she said. "Marriage is optional — I can do it or not do it. Even if I meet someone, I think I would only dream of a future if that person is someone worth marrying, and I don't want to rush into marriage."

Watching her peers from those early years settle down and start families feels surreal to her. "I don't feel like I've become an adult yet. But it's really amazing that people I was active with back then are getting married and becoming mothers." Her family hasn't pushed the issue.

Friends' milestones, her own pace

Yang Ji-won from Spica announced her marriage and pregnancy with musical actor Yang Jun-mo in August. Ham Eun-jung of T-ara, a close friend of Jeon's, married film director Kim Byung-woo in November of last year.

Even showing up to their weddings doesn't make it feel normal. "'Did they really get married?' is what I think. There seems to be a sense of stability and reassurance that comes from having someone on my side who will never waver no matter what trials come."

Career at 17 years

Secret's discography spans Shy Boy, Love is Move, Starlight Moonlight, and Magic. The group returned in June with a three-member lineup and the special mini-album Secret Flavor. Jeon released the solo track Good-night Kiss in 2014 and appeared in the Netflix original series Celebrities in 2023.

She earned the nickname "history idol" after scoring Level 3 on the Korean History Ability Test. "I always receive excessive praise. I did study Korean history, but it's really not to that extent."
