Choi Kang-hee returns to the stage in theater production 'Closer' after 5-year acting hiatus
After five years away, Choi Kang-hee is returning to acting on stage—and she's calling it her second peak era.

Back on stage after five years
Choi Kang-hee is appearing in the theater production Closer. It's her first acting work in five years. The stage is new territory for her.
She built a dedicated fanbase through screen work, recognized for her distinctive eyes and unconventional acting style. Lately she's been posting candid daily-life content, which has shown audiences a different side of who she is.
In her own words
In a Q&A, Choi Kang-hee was direct about what the craft means to her:
"내가 정말 좋아하는 거" — acting is something she truly loves.
She named her family as the greatest treasure in her life. On regret: every time she got angry. On her proudest moment: "when I endured loss" — holding back rather than reacting.
She also invented her own nickname, 강짱 / Gangzzang, and freely claims it as her favorite. When asked whether she's ever felt 4-dimensional, she said yes—specifically when packed into a crowded subway and feeling like one unified mass with the crowd.
Choi Kang-hee's run in Closer is ongoing as of October 10, 2026.
