Jo Hyun-ah at the Buil Film Awards
URBAN ZAKAPA vocalist Jo Hyun-ah, 36, stepped onto the Buil Film Awards celebration stage on October 7. She announced the appearance herself, posting photos in an all-black suit.
She's one-third of URBAN ZAKAPA, a co-ed trio rounded out by Park Yong-in and Kwon Soon-il. The group released five studio albums numbered sequentially—01 through 05.
A solo catalog built over years
Outside the group, Jo's built a solo and collaborative discography across multiple genres. She wrote and composed the digital single Nega Silheo ("I Hate You") and released Thursday Night. Her July 2024 solo single Julge ("I'll Give") had an unusual path: handed to her in 2017, she sat on it for years before finally putting it out.
Collaborations span Leessang's Nan Mariya..., XEPY's Monster, BILL STAX's Real Talk, a vocal feature on 187 from Show Me The Money 3, and a lyricist credit on Bada Eye from Younha's mini-album Just Listen.
TV and content work
Jo placed runner-up in the 33rd competition of King of Mask Singer and served as a vocal mentor on idol survival show The Unit. She appeared on variety show My Ugly Duckling and joined the hosting lineup of chart talk show Girls Night Out in 2023. She also runs an online content series called Jo Hyun-ah's Ordinary Thursday Night (조현아의 평범한 목요일 밤). (The Thursday thread is clearly a whole thing for her.)
