MIYEON drops first Japanese solo single 'RUN AWAY'

(G)I-DLE's Miyeon dropped RUN AWAY, her first Japanese digital single, on August 10 across major domestic and international music platforms.

Rock band sound. Miyeon's vocals cut through as the arrangement thickens toward the end, pushing the energy higher. She co-wrote the lyrics, weaving in a message about shaking off hesitation and moving forward. "I wanted to create a song that could give energy to myself with a lighter heart, so I participated directly in writing the lyrics," she said.

The music video hit at the same time, shot across Tokyo streets and a beach. Miyeon plays guitar and runs through the city in various scenes. She called the shoot cathartic—running through downtown Tokyo gave her stress relief and a sense of liberation, and the supporting actors brought their roles to life.

Miyeon described RUN AWAY as "the most exciting music among my solo songs released so far." On the surface it's bright and refreshing. Lyrically, it's built around the feeling of shouting "Let's do it! GO!" without hesitation. She pitched it for moments when listeners feel tired or stuck.

The release was deliberate surprise. She'd been preparing it for a long time but kept it hidden, wanting it to land as an unexpected gift for Neverland, (G)I-DLE's fandom name. She hopes for more chances to meet Japanese Neverland going forward.

The single arrives after Miyeon wrapped group activities with (G)I-DLE's 9th mini album We made. Cube Entertainment manages her solo career. This is her first time releasing Japanese music as a solo artist.
