Nine years in, Kevin goes solo
THE BOYZ main vocal Kevin (문형서, 27) just dropped his first solo EP, FREECHILD. Nine years as a group member, and this is his first fully independent project. He shaped every part of it himself.
The songs push back against the usual machine. Rebellion. Liberation. Self-identity. That's what the lyrics chase. On September 22, Kevin posted a street photo to Instagram—brick wall, green door, looking sideways—captioned "bring back 2010s pop." It was the clearest hint at what the music would sound like.
From Vancouver to main vocal
Kevin was born February 23, 1998 in Gwangju, South Korea. His family moved to Vancouver, Canada when he was young. He grew up speaking Korean, English, and French. Before THE BOYZ, he auditioned on SBS's K-pop Star Season 6 – The Last Chance under his legal name 문형서 and made it to the team mission round.
He debuted December 6, 2017 with THE BOYZ's first mini album THE FIRST. The group has 10 members: Sangyeon, Jacob, Younghoon, Hyunjae, Juyeon, Kevin, New, Q, Sunwoo, and Eric. When he appeared on MBC's Mystery Music Show Mask King, people compared his voice to Bruno Mars.
Seoul fan event and what's next
Kevin threw a release event in Seoul with fans. Live performances. Album talk sessions. Nine years of group schedules and then you're planning your own fan event—that's a full-circle moment.
He plans to keep doing both. Group work and solo releases, moving forward.
