THE BOYZ's Sunwoo signs with hip-hop label AT AREA for solo rap career
Sunwoo of THE BOYZ signed with Groovy Room's hip-hop label AT AREA in August. A black-and-white performance photo posted Sept. 17 confirmed it.
Sunwoo joins Groovy Room's label while THE BOYZ carry on
Sunwoo (Kim Sunwoo, 25) is THE BOYZ's main rapper and sub-vocalist. In August, he signed an exclusive contract with hip-hop label AT AREA, led by producing duo Groovy Room. THE BOYZ itself—Sangyeon, Jacob, Younghoon, Hyunjae, Juyeon, Kevin, New, Q, Sunwoo, and Eric—debuted December 6, 2017 with the mini-album THE FIRST.
On September 17, Sunwoo posted a black-and-white photo of himself mid-performance under intense lighting. The caption: ". @at____area" The label connection was unmissable.
AT AREA will handle Sunwoo's solo rap releases. Group schedules with THE BOYZ stay separate. The nine other members signed with a different new label to continue as a unit.
Broadcast work before the move
Sunwoo had already logged steady TV time. He was a weekly fixture on tvN's My Math Adolescence in 2018. By 2024 he'd joined ENA's Hype Boy Scout as a regular, appeared on SBS Song Champion and Mnet MY ARTi FILM EP.01, and took a fixed DJ slot at MBC FM4U's IDOL RADIO Season 4 starting February 19, 2024.
