A2O LITE's 'NEON' hits Melon No. 1 in 29 hours — fastest debut chart-topper since 2021 Top 100 reform
A2O LITE, a nine-member girl group under Lee Soo-man's A2O Entertainment, debuted Dec. 13. Their single 'NEON' hit Melon Top 100 No. 1 by 11 PM the next day and stayed there for over 10 days.

29 hours to No. 1
NEON reached No. 1 on Melon Top 100 at 11 PM on December 14. That's 29 hours after the track dropped on December 13. No debut song by a new group has topped Melon's Top 100 faster since the platform restructured to that chart format in 2021. A2O LITE held the position for more than 10 consecutive days.
The nine members — Young, Oa, Ayun, Aijing, Himeki, Rada, Siri, Bora, and Merci — span Korea, China, Japan, and Thailand.
What 'NEON' sounds like
NEON builds around heavy bass and sharp electronic sounds. The repetitive chorus is engineered for strong replay pull. Vocal sections, acapella moments, and high-intensity performance parts layer across the track. Dense, multi-layered composition and high-density performance lead the song instead of short, simple structures or easy-to-follow hooks.
Lee Soo-man's return
This is Lee Soo-man's first major domestic move since selling 14.8% of SM Entertainment shares to HIVE in February 2023. A non-compete agreement barred him from domestic music production until March 2026. Lee founded SM Planning in 1989 and established SM Entertainment in 1995. He now serves as key producer and visionary leader at A2O Entertainment.
On December 12, Lee presented A2O LITE alongside A2O SOUL — a 15-member boy group — at the same debut show. That put 24 new artists in front of the public at once. He laid out a shared musical color, worldview, and production system spanning both teams.
(Dropping 24 rookies in a single showcase while your non-compete clock is still ticking down to the month is a move.)
The Melon record gives the rollout an early data point heading into the rest of the era.
