Estra's Atobarrier365 Cream Just Hit 10 Million Units Sold

The number that keeps coming up in K-beauty conversations this week: 10 million. Estra's Atobarrier365 Cream crossed that cumulative sales milestone in January of this year, and it also took the top spot in the cream category at the Olive Young Awards for two consecutive years. For a derma brand that started doing skin-barrier research before the category even had a name in Korea, that's a real signal — not just a marketing beat.

Estra sits under Amorepacific and traces its roots back to 1982, when it was part of a pharmaceutical company. The brand has been focused on skin-barrier science since before "derma cosmetics" was a mainstream concept, and this year it ran a TV campaign called "Sincerity is felt through the skin" to bring that research history to a wider audience. The Korean Advertising Society selected Estra as one of six brands for its 2026 Brand of the Year award — the ceremony was held October 30 at Paradise Hotel in Busan. The award, established in 2006, goes to brands that have raised customer satisfaction and brand value through marketing activity.

On the device side, APR's Medicube brand wrapped its first relay pop-up tour across the US and Europe — New York, Los Angeles, London, and Paris — drawing 15,000 visitors total, with an average of more than 1,000 people per day across all locations. The tour was built around the AGE-R Booster Pro X2, a new beauty device launching in those markets. In Europe, it was Medicube's first standalone pop-up since entering the region, and both London and Paris saw long queues with reservations closing early. Visitors got a device-mode recommendation based on their skin concerns and tried it on-site; after the session, they received a health smoothie color-coded to the LED mode they used.

APR has a Spain stop coming next — a standalone pop-up in Madrid in November, in partnership with local drugstore chain Primo — and plans to expand offline retail presence across markets.

Meanwhile, cosmetics ODM company Cosmax hosted officials from Korea's Intellectual Property Office at its Pangyo R&D center on October 29. The visit focused on IP protection challenges that come up during R&D — a growing concern as K-beauty export revenue hit a record high of USD 11.13 billion in the first three quarters of this year, up 31% year-on-year. Cosmax currently holds over 2,000 cumulative patent applications and more than 900 registrations as of Q3. The company brought three specific policy proposals to the table: streamlining partial-examination design registration for cosmetic packaging, standardizing chemical compound notation for cosmetic inventions, and clarifying the criteria for ODM companies to report counterfeit goods.

LG Pra.L, LG H&H's home beauty device brand, launched a new Dermatology Advisory Panel — its first research meeting was held October 22 at a dermatology clinic in Gangnam, Seoul. The panel is made up of medical professionals and researchers with an average of more than 10 years of clinical experience. Their focus: analyzing how the devices interact with skin at a mechanistic level, with the goal of developing at-home care protocols that are both effective and low-irritation. LG H&H plans to hold regular panel meetings going forward, feeding the findings into product planning and research.

The thread connecting all four stories this week is reach — Estra moving into the US and Europe on the back of its Olive Young Awards wins, Medicube proving physical demand exists in Western markets, Cosmax pushing for stronger IP frameworks as export volume grows, and LG Pra.L building clinical credibility for home devices. K-beauty's center of gravity is shifting outward, and the brands making moves right now are the ones that built their domestic credentials first.
