MONSTA X promote 'THE PHASE' mini album and title track 'MAGIC' across radio, YouTube, and music shows
MONSTA X's 'THE PHASE' hit #1 on iTunes K-pop Albums in 11 countries after dropping Sept. 4. The group's been everywhere since.
11 countries, one week in
MONSTA X released their mini album THE PHASE on September 4. Title track "MAGIC" went straight to #1 on the iTunes Top K-pop Albums chart in 11 countries.
Two days later, Shownu and Minhyuk showed up on SBS Power FM's Two O'Clock Escape Cult Two Show on September 9. Minhyuk called "MAGIC" "a song that contains the color of 3rd generation idols." Shownu had his own take: "It's addictive — the more you listen, the more you get drawn in."
Minhyuk talked about returning to the program after years away. "Coming back to Cult Two Show in my 13th year after arriving so nervously in my debut days — it feels new." The conversation shifted to youngest member I.M, currently serving in the military. They said they decided not to visit him out of fairness. But when he enlisted, they changed their flights at the last minute, saw him off in Korea, and flew straight back to Japan. During a physical measurement segment, Minhyuk recorded a forearm circumference of 36 cm. Shownu's was 37.5 cm.
The YouTube stop
September 10 brought Minhyuk, Ki Hyun, and Hyung Won to the YouTube channel 내가그린그저그런그림 for its 내그그그그 segment. Comedian Yoo Byung Jae joined them. The episode mixed talk, games, and a drawing corner, all built around "MAGIC."
Each member brought something different to the art corner. Minhyuk, who's shown an interest in art before, built a three-dimensional piece using a brush and rubber clay. Ki Hyun drew cherries hanging on a tree — his interpretation of the album's mystery concept. (He explained: "This time's concept photo is a mystery concept, so I tried to express the mystery of cherries hanging on a tree in the drawing.") Hyung Won painted with a brush and told the group that meeting Yoo Byung Jae, someone he'd wanted to meet more than anyone, was his own personal "magic."
The games got competitive. Ki Hyun won the second round of the pig-wrestling (돼지씨름) game. Minhyuk found his notes fastest in the treasure hunt through quick movement and bold searching. Ki Hyun also shared that he used to win talent shows on school retreats and trips. Minhyuk recalled buying Click-B's CDs at bookstores and memorizing every track. Hyung Won said he was obsessed with soccer as a kid.
MONSTA X are scheduled to perform "MAGIC" on KBS Music Bank on September 11.
