Shin Seung-ho once guarded Red Velvet — then co-starred with Irene in 'Double Patty'
Shin Seung-ho worked three months as a department store security guard before acting, including close protection at a Red Velvet fan signing.

From the security line to the same set
Shin Seung-ho has a pre-debut story that lands differently than most. On September 19, the actor appeared on the YouTube channel Tteun Tteun's web variety show Brunch is an Excuse (EP. 118) alongside Koo Gyo-hwan and Kang Ki-young. He walked through a career path that ran: soccer player, department store security guard, actor.
After quitting professional soccer, Shin worked part-time security at a department store for about three months. When celebrities showed up for in-store events, he got assigned to close protection. That included a Red Velvet fan signing. "It was so fun," he said. "When celebrities came to events, I also did close protection. The department store assigned me to it."
The Red Velvet chapter didn't end there. "I also did close protection at Red Velvet's fan signing event. But as time passed, after I started acting, I ended up filming a movie with Irene." That movie was Double Patty, the 2021 film where he and Irene starred together.
The soccer road that led here
Shin started playing soccer in grades 3 or 4 of elementary school and kept going through university-level competition. He was candid about why he stopped: "I wasn't such an outstanding player. There were so many outstanding players that I thought this path wasn't for me. Somehow I ended up acting." Still, he added, "I still love soccer very much."
In 2021, a torn anterior cruciate ligament required surgery, and he subsequently received a military service exemption. He addressed it directly: "It is natural that everyone should go, so of course it is regrettable" and "I feel upset and sorry."
'Resurrection Man: The Red' opens September 30
Shin's credits since his debut include Hwang Jang-su in Netflix's D.P., plus roles in Alchemy of Souls, Weak Hero Class 1, and the film Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint. His next film, Resurrection Man: The Red, opens September 30. Koo Gyo-hwan and Kang Ki-young appear in it—the same two actors who sat across from him on Pingyego when he told the whole security-guard story.
