LIGHTSUM drops Japanese digital single 'Merry Kiss' on November 6
Two months after their Japanese debut album 'Re:idol', LIGHTSUM return with a holiday single and announce their first Japan showcase for December.

Two months after 'Re:idol', a holiday follow-up
LIGHTSUM — Sang-a, Chowon, Nayoung, Hina, Juhyeon, and Yujeong — will release the Japanese digital single メリキス (Merry Kiss) on November 6. That's roughly two months after their Japanese debut album Re:idol dropped in September.
The track is billed as a holiday season song suited to the year-end atmosphere. Album cover art wraps around a Christmas tree ornament concept that plays up the group's kawaii image. Lyricist and composer Yumika Kondo, known for work on the popular anime Love Live! series and multiple K-pop acts, wrote the song. Producer pw.a, who made LIGHTSUM's Japanese original どうして (Doshite), also returns to keep the team's sonic identity intact.
What 'Re:idol' already did on the charts
Re:idol peaked at No. 4 on the Oricon daily album chart. Its title track どうして hit No. 2 on Japan's YouTube daily music video chart and No. 27 on the weekly popular songs chart. The Korean-language version, 어떡해 (Doshite KR ver.), performed on Mnet M Countdown on the 22nd. That stage clip alone crossed 1 million views; related SNS views surpassed 10 million.
(The numbers suggest the kawaii pivot in Japan is working.)
Fan meetings and a December showcase
Before Merry Kiss even lands, LIGHTSUM will be in Japan for fan meetings on November 3 in Saitama and November 7 in Aichi.
On December 28, the group holds their first Japan showcase at Spotify O-EAST in Tokyo.
